Nick was born December 7, 1986 in Hilo Hawai’i. He spent all of his adult life in a career in law enforcement doing what he truly loved.
Nick joined the Hawaii Police Department on Feb. 1, 2011. After academy and field training, he was promoted to Police Officer 2 and worked in the Kona Patrol District. Nick was later promoted and worked in the Area 2 Vice section until he resigned on Aug. 26, 2022 to join the Post Falls Police Department. Since joining the PFPD, he has been a role model to new officers and an advocate for relationship building with the community.
Nick had planned to make law enforcement his lifelong career and in his short time he had with us his impact was felt amongst the entire community and fellow officers.
Nicholas is survived by his fiancé, Paige, his children, his mother and father (Heather and Danny), his brothers and many extended family members across the US.
Nick was not only an amazing, kind and by the book hard working police officer; he was an amazing father, son and husband. Family came first over anything.
On October 22nd, 2023, Ofc. McDaniel was working patrol for the Post Falls Police Department. Shortly after unlocking a car for a citizen, he suffered a massive heart attack in his police car. When dispatchers could not reach him by radio, three PFPD officers found him unconscious in the driver's seat. The officers immediately started CPR in the middle of the street until firefighters arrived on scene and transported him to the hospital. Sadly, Ofc. McDaniel could not be saved by medical personnel and he passed away shortly after arrival at Kootenai Medical Center.
Ofc. McDaniel's memorial service was held on November 4th, 2023 at Real Life Ministries with full police honors.
